Journals and papers of the daughters, grandchildren, and a niece of William Dawes. Includes a story book written and illustrated by Dawes' granddaughter, Lucretia D. Newcomb (d.1804), presenting her vision of the ideal way of relating to her parents and brother. Correspondence between three of Dawes' daughters, Hannah Dawes Newcomb, Mehetabel May Dawes Goddard, and Lucretia Dawes, and granddaughter Harriet Newcomb Holland, covers their daily activities and Mehetabel's interests in painting and music. Hannah Newcomb's will and Mehetabel's account of her father's alarm ride on April 18, 1775 are also included in this collection. The diary of Hannah Dawes Newcomb describes the weather and visitors. Lucretia Dawes Newcomb (d.1850), William Dawes' niece, writes in her diary about visits to Boston and her responses to Sunday sermons.
